The desk
Why a Hamilton economics blog
Daintierxeno is an independent commentary desk. We write about the British economy as it is measured in Threadneedle Street and as it is lived in places that do not set Bank Rate.
The name is the name. The work is narrower. We publish briefings and essays on monetary policy, the public finances, the labour market, housing, trade and the nations and regions of the United Kingdom. We do not sell trading signals, we do not manage money, and we are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.
The office is at 1C Palace Grounds Rd, Hamilton ML3 6AD, UK. Hamilton is in South Lanarkshire, on the edge of the Glasgow economy, which is a better place than most from which to notice when a “national” story is actually a London one. Correspondence goes to [email protected].
What we owe readers
Primary sources first: the Office for National Statistics, the Bank of England, the Office for Budget Responsibility, the Scottish Fiscal Commission, the Debt Management Office, and the departmental releases that sit underneath the headlines. We will say when we are reading a forecast, when we are reading an outturn, and when we are offering a judgment.
We correct errors in the relevant essay, with a dated note at the foot of the page. If you spot one, write. We would rather be accurate than first.
What we are not
We are not a newsroom with a politics desk. We are not a think tank with a whip. We are not a consultancy. Occasional commissioned work, if it happens, will be labelled. The default is that you are reading unpaid, independent commentary.
If you want the method in more detail, read the methodology note. If you want to argue with a piece, use the contact page.
